Adult class: Introduction to Computer Coding with Python

Have you ever thought about trying computer programming? Do you need to keep up with your kids? This class is an introduction to fundamental coding concepts and skills. We will use Python, one of the easier languages to learn and also used by major companies. The concepts are easily extended to other programming languages. The class is based on simple projects we will code and we will learn the concepts as we go.

Community Cloud Challenge

A program open to all participants of any level or age. Learn more about clouds with NASA scientists and educators each Thursday on NASA Earth’s Facebook page, do at-home activities, or take cloud or sky observations through the Clouds tool on GLOBE or the GLOBE Observer app. It is all up to you! Show how you took part in this unique event by sharing on social media.

Coding: Scratch II

For Students who have already taken the Beginning Coding with Scratch workshop and are ready to learn more advanced concepts and produce detailed, more complex creations. Students will learn programing concepts while creating fun games, activities, and stories. Most programing is done by dragging and dropping blocks with minimal typing. Many graphical characters called “sprites” are supplied along with a large variety of actions they perform. While this is a good language for beginners, it is also possible to continue learning more advanced concepts and produce detailed, more complex creations

Beginning Coding with Scratch

Scratch is a graphical and block-based language good for younger students or beginners of any age. Students will learn programing concepts while creating fun games, activities, and stories. Most programing is done by dragging and dropping blocks with minimal typing. Many graphical characters called “sprites” are supplied along with a large variety of actions they perform. While this is a good language for beginners, it is also possible to continue learning more advanced concepts and produce detailed, more complex creations.

Advanced Scratch Coding Workshop

This is a continuing class for students who have had 2 sessions of Scratch with us or who are familiar with basic Scratch blocks such as If, Forever, For, MyBlocks, and simple animation. In this class you can get help to code your own projects as well as work along on more advanced projects we provide. Returning students will work in new projects every session.

Coding: Python II

For students who attended the Coding: Going Beyond with Python or any student with some previous Python coding experience. Python is a text-based coding language that is easy to read with less punctuation than other languages. While it is possible to start programming with Python without prior coding experience, it is geared toward older beginners or students with block programing experience who are ready to get more geeky. In Python, students will build from the ground up, typing all code and using graphics they generate or find. we will work with turtle graphics to build games and other creations.
